medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear medieval-religion colleagues,
Although I have only heard about this several weeks after the fact, I thought I should share the sad news of the death of Michael Goodich, professor of medieval history at the University of Haifa. A pioneering and engaging historian of the Middle Ages, Michael's work focussed on sources in which voices of the 'other' emerged most clearly, hagiographical and legal sources in particular.
An obituary article may be found at:

Here is a list of his books (he published many more articles):
Minorities, Heretics and Life on the Margins in the Middle Ages (New
York: Praeger, 2007).
Voices from the Bench: The Narratives of Lesser Folk in Medieval Trials, in New Middle Ages Series (New York: Palgrave/Macmillan, 2005).
Lives and Miracles of the Saints: Studies in Medieval Latin Hagiography (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2004) Other Middle Ages: Marginal Groups in the Medieval Period
(Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 1998).
Violence and Miracle in the Fourteenth Century: Private Grief and Public Salvation (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1995).
Cross-Cultural Convergences in the Crusader Period: Essays in Presented to Aryeh Grabois on His Sixty- Fifth Birthday, ed. with S.
Menache and S. Schein (New York: Peter Lang, 1996) [paperback edition, 1999].
From Birth to Old Age: the Human Life Cycle in Medieval European Thought, 1250-1350 (Lanham, Md.: University Press of America, 1989).
Vita perfecta: the Ideal of Sainthood in the Thirteenth Century, in Monographien zur Geschichte des Mittelalters, 25, ed. Karl Bosl and Friedrich Prinz (Stuttgart: Anton Hiersemann, 1982).
The Unmentionable Vice: Homosexuality in the Later Middle Ages (Santa
Barbara: ABC-Clio, 1979; paperback edition, Ross-Erickson, 1980; Dorset, 1984).
Michael is survived by his wife Marian and his daughter Claudia.
Michael was a most gregarious man; he will be missed.
George
