Here at Hackney we have a modified version of Dewey with a bit of UDC
thrown in for good measure. Or should that be bad measure? It's
certainly not ideal but there isn't the time or resources available to
develop/install something more suitable.

Subject: Local history book classification [Virus: checked]
Hello Colleagues,
At Inverclyde Libraries we are considering how to improve the subject
arrangement of books in our local history library. They are currently
classified using Dewey but this can seperate related subjects e.g. Clyde
marine engineering, Clyde marine transport. I'd like to know if any
local studies librarians arrange their book collections using schemes
apart from Dewey.
Do you use subject categorisation rather than classification? Do you
know of any specialised schemes for local studies collections?
Any replies will be much appreciated.
