I am talking about public libraries, 36 years ago, Nickie .To mis-quote,
'The past is not just another country, but a different universe.'!

Hmm - been watching this going back and forth and thinking you all must have
been in a different universe from me. I started working in further
education college libraries and have *always* had fifteen minutes tacked on
at the end of an evening shift to cover locking up etc. and *usually* been
able to escape earlier than that ... to the extent that I had to remind
staff sometimes who were grouching about not getting away until ten past one
evening that they were actually paid to be there until quarter past!
Now I am a civil servant and on flexi-time anyway so if I stay late it gets
recorded on my timesheet and I certainly don't work more hours than I'm paid
for. Unless you count the odd bit of professional reading ... but that's to
be expected. :-)
