In general the C ofe E are more interested, but the
level of flexibility is extremely variable.
During the York 2000 festival there was an entire week
of 1549 BCP services, yet we were restricted to less
than a day's worth of Use of York Offices and
definitely no Mass. The Minster authorities kept all
notice of the Offices off their noticeboards and, at
the last minute, took the decision to not allow
members of the public to attend them.
On the other hand, Southwell Minster couldn't have
been more helpful in '97 in putting on a Use of York
Mass, even moving staging and nave altars to fit us
in.
The Catholic Church tends to suffer from the idea that
Latin liturgy is almost an act of sedition; that said,
I have put on York Vespers in both Leeds and Hallam
(Sheffield) Cathedrals as well as other churches. But
no Masses.
