Hi Heather,
We have this functionality, but not directly linked to our main VLE
software.
We use novell netstorage (we run a novell network).
The current off campus access is just a link here:-
http://www.solent.ac.uk/staffandstudents/staffandstudents.aspx
Then standard login/password.
No great problems that I'm aware of, although it can be a little slow
transfering big files.
However we're developing Oracle Portal to replace our home grown student
intranet which will have a direct single signed-on link through to the
'home' drives from on or off campus.
Eventually our VLE offerings will be consumed into the Portal in a similar
way.
There are no plans to integrate this file storage into the VLE product as
such (although we may well eventually have a link in the VLE to the
netstorage once that is integrated with the Portal)
Keeps us busy!
Roger

Subject: Network Storage via a VLE from home - HOW
Has anyone made their network storage (often referred to as home drives)
available to their learners when they are using a computer from home.
I'm sure I have seen it done somewhere. A link was put into their VLE and
it caused what looked like windows explorer to open so that a person could
just drag and drop files onto and off of their college network space.
We are keen to get this type of scenario working and wondered how other
people had done it and what pitfalls await us.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Heather
