I know I've seen at least one website on bone beads and the waste from making them, but offhand I can't remember whether it was Konstanz or elsewhere -- I'll have to go look it up.

That would be very kind of you. I can more or less flounder through German with a dictionary and some help (my French is much better, so of course I've picked a research project where I need German!!) but I'd be very grateful both for references to published work, and for any unpublished data people cared to share.
I am actually planning a research trip to Germany sometime in the next year or so to look at some specific examples in person: the list of possible stops includes Köln (of course), München, and also Regensburg (where all four of my mother's grandparents came from).
Aspects of paternoster beads in which I am interested include: bead and string materials, form of the string, size and shape of beads, number and arrangement of beads, and who may have made, bought or used them. I have also been looking at the ornamentation of beads and how they were worn as accessories (looped over a belt, worn around the neck, etc.).
One question I am especially interested in asking archaeologists is: how do you decide that a few beads you have found are from a rosary? I have some ideas on the subject, but I'd like to know how others go about attributing beads to a rosary rather than to some other use.
Thanks again --
