medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I rather suspect that somebody relied on a spell checking program, which did
not have "hieratic," in its vocabulary base, and suggested that the word was
a misspelling of "heretic." It is funny, though. A good lesson, for all of
us, too. Spell Check programs cannot replace careful proofreading,
especially, if a typo is a real word, such as typing "bat," instead of
"vat." ("b" and "v" being adjacent, on the keyboard).
Of course, some people are terribly deficient, at spelling. My favorite
example:

A Dessertation Submited To
The Faculty of English,
for the degree of
Doctor of Philosophy
Rather makes one want to cry, doesn't it?
