medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Fred Paxton's book _Christianizing Death_ looks at the similarities among early Christian, Jewish, and pagan Roman practices in the first few chapters. Paxton focus on the west, but Antigone Samellas, _Death in the Eastern Mediterranean (50-600 A.D.)_ looks to the east. Two very different methodologies (and questions) but with a shared focus on ritual.
