medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Well, Cecilia, if you had grown up with your mother harping on Bibles moralisees all
the time, perhaps you, too, would have become a saint (rather than an medievalist)!
Blanche of Castile, I can't help thinking, must have been a dominating influence in
all her children's lives. Just look at their heraldry: all of her children adopted France
*and* Castile in some form. And beyond her "regency" for the young Louis IX, she
seems to have exercised a more than usual influence on the decisions from the
throne, at the same time that she was seeking special dispensation, as a woman, to
attend Cistercian general councils. She must have been "a force to be reckoned
with", to say the least.
Cheers,
