medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Members of the List,
I am looking for some suggestions regarding the cross-cultural exchange of
ritual practices, especially in (but not limited to) early medieval times.
Currently, I am doing research on my PhD project which focuses medieval
excommunication rituals. Thereby, I stumbled across some hints regarding
the Jewish ban (the 'cherem'), which consists of a similar ritual
framework compared to its Christian counterpart.
In this context, I have two rather general questions:
1. Could you give to me some bibliographical hints regarding some examples
of a cross-cultural exchange of ritual practices (especially between Jews
and Christians, but maybe also between Christians and Muslims)?
2. Do you know some methological approaches to the 'interculturality' of
rituals and ceremonies (apart from holistic anthropological approaches - I
know them already ...)?
Best regards,
Christian Jaser
