Alas, it's only a putto. What I took to be horns arising from a
flat-topped head are, upon closer inspection, wings poking up behind a halo.

To which I usually compare Botticelli's painting of A. in his studio
(1480) in the Chiesa d'Ognissanti in Florence:

(fresco transferred to canvas). The image is much clearer when expanded).
Botticelli's portrait includes many of the elements that will also be
present in Carpaccio's composition (e.g. the armillary sphere, the large
collection of books on raised shelving) but, because A. is shown in a
corner, the suggestion is that of a scholar in his closet. Carpaccio,
on the other hand, gives A. a spacious study suitable, perhaps, for
private audiences.
