I am surprised that no one on the list has commented on this before now.
Perhaps only members employed by the MLA have had the time and inclination
to plough through the whole thing (it is quite horribly written after all).
Personally, whilst I am obviously looking forward to the "opportunities that
these proposals will open up" for me to become redundant or work in the
library equivalent of a call centre, I am hoping that my local authority
will not be foolish enough to devote nearly all of their stock funds into a
scheme which does not seem to relate to the way in which public libraries
actually work.

This seems a good time to draw everyone's attention to the publication
last week of MLA's latest report on stock procurement, "Better stock,
better libraries" which you'll find on our website at
http://www.mla.gov.uk/website/programmes/framework/framework_programmes/
stock_procurement
While we wouldn't want to suggest that anyone delays a review of bib
services until 2008, it is important I think that any such review takes
account of the national direction of travel and allows your authority to
start to plan for the opportunities that these proposals will open up
for you.
