How do museums, libraries and archives form meaningful and sustainable
relationships with their local communities?
MLA London has organised four training days looking at different aspects of
Community Participation. These workshops aim to support the sector develop
the skills and confidence to build effective working relationships with
local communities and voluntary groups.

Community Participation
This workshop will explore issues around what is a community, and what are
the benefits for museums, libraries and archives. It provides advice on
successful partnership working with communities and the processes that will
help you with your work.
29 November 2006
Workshop 2 - How to get to know your community using Community Profiling
This workshop will focus on how museums, libraries and archives can find
out about the needs of the communities they serve using community
profiling.
31 January 2007
Workshop 3 -What is Community Participation?
This workshop will examine what is meant by Community Participation and
will be a mixture of theory and practice.. Participants will be introduced
to the different definitions and models showing the levels of patricipation
and they will have the opportunity to examine how this relates to their
current and planned work.
14 March 2007
Workshop 4 - How to plan and evaluate your Community Participation work
The final workshop will support participants identify the different aspects
involved in the planning and evaluation of community participation work.
