holding the green tabletop?

make sure that you've got the expanded view of the .jpg, since it is larger
than an IE window:
put the cursor on it anywhere and a little expansion ikon (a box with
outward-going arrows) will appear in the lower right corner of the image.
click on that ikon and the .jpg will expand to its full size.
there are two pieces of furnature :
a "table" (actually a low cabinet or perhaps a bed) with a green cloth over it
in the background, and the Hi-Tech Workstation at which the Homie with the
backwards baseball cap is sitting.
the latter consists of two parts: a base with pretty "linenfold" carved panels
below and the bookstand above.
the latter is held up by a crank-shaped Thingie (to use the technical Latin
term for it) which, by its color, shape and function, seems to be made of
metal.
the way the light plays on it makes it appear to be a piece of pipe (or at
least it is round).
the only ways i know to make suchlike a Thingie out of metal (iron) is either
to cast it (which would make it *very* heavy) or to make it out of three
seperate pieces of pipe, cutting them at a 45 degree angle and welding them
together at right angles.
the latter technology was, as far as i know, not available to the middlevils.

i don't know what to do about that.
