the two catalogues which Jim mentioned,
Denis Bruna, Enseignes de pelerinage et enseignes profanes, Musee National du

Brian Spencer, Pilgrim Souvenirs and Secular Badges, Museum of London,
Medieval Finds from Excavations in London, 7 (London, 1998),
while by no means exhaustive of all the many, many thousands of pilgrims'
badges which have survived (mostly in an aquatic context), are nonetheless
quite impressive --hundreds and hundreds of badges, mostly found in the Seine
and Thames-- and well worth a look for anyone interested in the medium.
or for anyone who happens to be on the lookout for middlevil "rudness".
