CILIP ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING

CILIP members gain full text access to five of Emerald's LIS publications

CILIP: the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals is pleased to announce an exciting new benefit for its 22,000 members, delivered in partnership with Emerald Group Publishing, leading international publisher of library and information services journals. CILIP members will now be able to access full text versions of the latest published issues of five internationally respected journals covering key areas of professional interest as a free, automatic upgrade to their current membership.

This is an important and valuable addition to CILIP membership, complementing the existing range of online resources available to members. The full text journals provide in-depth analysis of a wide range of professional issues, and the latest practical ideas on how to tackle some of the key problems faced by library and information services professionals today. The Emerald portal (www.emeraldinsight.com) can be accessed through the CILIP website, and is available immediately and free of charge to all members.

This benefit coincides with the official announcement of the partnership between CILIP and Emerald which commenced on 1 July 2006. Strong synergies exist between CILIP and Emerald and both organisations have a long history in fields where 'state of the art' knowledge is developed, published and distributed. In addition to the immediate benefit to CILIP members, both organisations gain real added value: Emerald is able to reach new, professional audiences with its material, and CILIP is able to differentiate itself from other chartered institutes with this high quality content.

Jill Martin, CILIP's Director of Knowledge and Information says, 'We're delighted to be able to offer our members desktop access to the latest content as it's published from this range of leading library and information management journals. This is high value information to which our members will have access as part of their CILIP subscription. We believe this package builds very effectively on our existing offering of online resources for members, adding in-depth analysis of a wide range of professional issues and the latest practical ideas on how to tackle some of the key problems faced by LIS practitioners today."

Jenny Pickles, Head of Business Development at Emerald adds, "The Emerald journals comprehensively span the two worlds of interest to CILIP members: the world of academic research and theory, and the practitioner's world of best-practice, action, decision and practicality."

Current issues of the following journals will now be available to members:

* Interlending and Document Supply (ILDS) - a quarterly journal covering a wide range of topics in the field, from traditional approaches to the use of advanced technology, both intra and internationally.
* New Library World (NLW) - a monthly journal focusing on the librarians' changing role in response to new needs and the influence of new technology
* Library Hi-Tech (LHT) - a quarterly journal focused on the use of technology and computing in the library community.
* Vine - The Journal of Knowledge and Information Management Systems - a quarterly journal covering information management, electronic information provision, e-publishing and knowledge management.
* The Journal of Knowledge Management (JKM) - published six times a year, JKM is a scholarly (peer reviewed) journal. The latest academic and practical approaches to the management of knowledge in organisations are illustrated by case studies, original research and articles.

Many CILIP members will already be familiar with Emerald and its broad range of high-quality on-line journal content in areas including engineering, management science and knowledge management. For existing users of Emerald's powerful and user-friendly resource, it is hoped that the free CILIP member benefit will complement their existing subscriptions, allowing them to stay abreast of the latest developments in their professional field more easily. For CILIP members not familiar with Emerald, this benefit will provide a free introduction to this powerful knowledge database and networking tool, which, once tried, many will find indispensable. In addition to this free resource, the content of the journals will also constitute an important advantage for members, enhancing both professional performance, and career development.

The formation of new 'cross-links' within the library and information community, facilitated by this new partnership and member-service, will be of great benefit to members and institutions alike. The Emerald portal can also highlight other journals that will be of interest to members, and provide information and support for those members seeking to publish academic or practical papers.

Further information on Emerald, its history and services can be found at:
www.emeraldinsight.com/info/products_services/partnerships/index.jsp.

Members can access the free member content through the CILIP website, along with the existing range of online resources available at: www.cilip.org.uk/publications/emerald.
