Dear colleagues,
- It would be the BPI who have our answers regarding hold-back. I wrote to them last September about shortening hold back for Libraries. They said they'd bring it to a meeting but never got back! Maybe with more recent changes in the industry they'd be intersted in reviewing their position. Whatever, it is overdue. I'll follow up this week in general terms.
- breadth of stock certainly works for your big or Central libraries - but not all.
- Libraries need to offer a download service that is somehow library-specific (PN-based?), at an attractive rate. DVDs and CDs are under increasing pressure from Pod use and download culture. What will we do about it? How do we get a slice of the cake that's attractive to the PN users who are sat all day in our libraries not spending any premium-service cash but could be!?
