I notice that the new RollYO service (Roll Your Own Search Engine)
allows you to run searches that are restricted to a set of web sites
that you nominate.
I thought that this might be an interesting way to deliver focused
and "federated" searches in the context of Digital Repositories, so I
have set up a "UK Research Repository Search Engine" at http://
rollyo.com/lescarr/uk_research/
It is currently limited to 25 sites, so I have taken the 25 most
populated UK Institutional or Departmental repositories from ROAR
(which corresponds to those repositories with more than 200 records).
Of course, it doesn't differentiate between repository infrastructure
pages and the papers/eprints/digital objects themselves, but it is an
interesting (and cheap) way of setting up a nationwide (or regional)
service.
Is there anything similar out there?
