On Friday evening after mass in St Florent, Corsica, there was a procession
for St Erasmus around the harbour.
Incidentally, in our week in Corsica, we also encountered St Julie (a
crucified martyr who may have been from Nonza - Corsica - or Carthage!); and
St Flor, a Roman youth whose relics were sent to St Florent by Pope Clement
XIV in the 18th century - these are contained in the tiny Romanesque
'cathedral of the Nebbio' built 'by the Pisans' in the early 12th century.
The campanile was taken down in the nineteenth century but the remaining
church, baptistry and possible cemetery looked to me like a mini Pisa
cathedral precinct. We also attended Mass for the Visitation in the large
church of the tiny village of Farinole, where we comprised 40% of the
congregation.
Regards,
Rosemary Hayes
