medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Is the saint's being miraculously directed to an order other than the
one (s)he had intended to join a topos of mendicant Lives? The early
Lives of the Augustinian prior general Agostino Novello have something
similar: the seriously ill A. intended to become a Dominican but by
divine providence two Augustinian Hermits showed up at his retreat and
became his spiritual guides.
