A clever chap here devised a workaround for the Construction quiz. He
provided an additional .htm file that we dropped into the folder and
then used to launch the quiz instead of the engine. I am well out of my
depth here so I can't explain how it works, but it is something to do
with bypassing the executable file and his solution launches the Flash
object without running the .exe (I believe).
Anyway, it launches the quiz neatly in a browser window. I will send the
file to anyone who wants to try. We launch from BB as an external link
to our web server and it's fine but we can also upload the zipped folder
to BB and use his alternative file as the start up. I've no idea if it
will deliver any SCORM details as our version doesn't capture that - but
some functionality is better than none, IMHO.
Incidentally, I remember that there was a bit of disappointment
expressed when these resources were released, that they didn't seem to
take account of the whole VLE/interoperability thing and I thought that
someone in BECTA or JISC was urging the Standards Unit to refashion
them.
Mail me offline at [log in to unmask] if you'd like to try his
workaround.

Resources[Scanned]
Hi Heather,
We have struggled with this one too and have had to run the (very
useful) Construction quizzes over our student network (Z drive) in the
LRC rather than via Moodle. As a previous posting suggested, it is
because they were not created to be SCORM compliant. Last year I tried
to find out why this was, never quite got to the bottom of it! As it
stands there is a possibility that we will try and put our own versions
of some of these questions and answers into Moodle quizzes so that they
can be accessible off site, and trackable though this is less of a
priority at the moment. I passed your question to our IT Support for an
update. Reply below:
"I dont believe it is possible to run this type of thing via moodle, the
files on the Z drive are executable programs, which could be made
available for download via moodle to be used locally on users PCs, but
not incorporated in to it to run through it.
It would need a completely different web based version to run through
moodle.
I guess this is why we are having to use Z drive for it : pity though as
it would be a great thing to have available on the moodle."

Subject: [VLES] Standards Unit Teacher and Trainer Resources[Scanned]
Hello
is anyone using the Teacher and Trainer Resources from the Standards
unit produced by the Department for Education and Skills in the success
for all scheme in a VLE. In particular I'm interested in the
construction computer based quiz and Moodle.
As far as I can tell the quiz has to be installed locally on each
machine with scores being collected locally on each machine making it
difficult for a tutor to keep up with who is doing what. I've been asked
to see if it will go in Moodle. I can't see any copy right restrictions
in terms of not making it available, but as it runs from an execuatable
it isn't obvious how to make it network.
Open to suggestions if anyone has already been down this route.
Thanks
Heather
