We allow USB connections as they are de facto portable file storage for
customers. We argued the case with IT that their security manages risk from
floppies, and USB devices are not really any different except larger
capacity. They were happy, as long as we accepted responsibility for any
problems!
We have disclaimer that we allow it on condition that they are responsible
for any damage caused by their use of them to our service, and that we are
not liable for any loss of data or service on their devices if they plug
them into our service. We also do not guarantee that their device will
work, we don't support their use nor allow any driver install trhat their
device needs. If they plug it in, and they can see their files great, if
not tough luck!
We also allow access to the safe unplug function, and customers can choose
to risk this or not. Most know how to save their stuff before pulling the
things out!

memory card reader?
Hi John,
We are getting inundated with requests for people to use USBs and download
from phone cameras, particularly for photos but also CVs. We have a large
number of guest workers and students using Lincoln Central Library and they
often want to email photos home.
Our IT department are now looking into this but we really need to be keeping
abreast of user "needs" rather than lagging behind which we are at present.

Sorry for the cross-posting.
With the absence of floppy drives on new PC's, is there any evidence in our
market place of a growth in demand, not just for USB drives, but for readers
for Memory cards of various formats (SD, CF, MMC etc), for Cameras, PDA's
etc. (and some Panasonic TV's!)
Corporate PC purchases tend to be of 'business' machines, which generally
lack this provision, so there is an additional cost to us for this if we
want it.
Any thoughts?
Regards
JU
