Emerald Group Publishing is now offering selected Special Issues of its
peer-reviewed journals via Amazon, using print-on-demand services. The
titles, which are normally only available as part of a journal volume or
on a per article pay-per-view basis, are being offered via Amazon.
Cathy Mostyn, business development director, says, “We are now able to
offer Special Issues on Amazon’s website and via other distributors.
Trialling print-on-demand has enabled us (through the networks of
Lightning Source: www.lightningsource.co.uk) to trial Amazon and this
innovative strategy is helping us to reach new customers who may not
otherwise have the opportunity to buy, read or learn from our Special
Issues. Priced at £34.99 for single issues and £49.99 for double issues,
the price is proving attractive to buyers in the UK and abroad.”
Print-on-demand is an innovative printing process that makes it possible
to print books one at a time. Books are digitised and stored in the
Lightning Source library to be printed in small quantities as required to
fill orders. Lightning Source prints titles and rapidly ships direct to
retailers or via distributors and wholesalers with which it has an
alliance for example Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com. The Emerald titles are
now available via www.Amazon.com and www.Amazon.co.uk as well as other
distribution partners including: Gardners / Bertrams / Paperback bookshop
(marketplace trader) / Book Depository (marketplace trader) / Coutts /
Bertrams Library Supplies / Blackwells Library Supplies and in the US,
Ingram / Amazon.com / Baker & Taylor / Barnes & Noble / Nascorp.
