Disappointing indeed. However, we need to look at it into the contextual
perspective, the world bank's priority has always been the well being of the
transatioanlisation of the world, not the questioning of the economic model
that underpins the world's domination.
The WB's directors obey that logic (i.e their mandate is not make poverty
history to use a recent slogan). I can see why a person with a framework of
a social model of disabilities could put into question amongst others the
Bush' administration.
During decades the WB has assumed the 'free transationalisation of the
markets' as its gospel, particularly for billions of people who live in
poverty and exclusion in extended areas of the globe. Lets not forget that
as we won't be able to read those pages in the history books or the BBC
programmes in 200 years time, in the same manner that we can read the
history of colonisation and slavery now. The WB is a key institution for
understanding our times. Andy
