medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The "all fours" aspect may be a rendition of Gen 3:17-18:
Judgment one-CURSED IS THE GROUND FOR THY SAKE-Gen 3:17.
Judgment two-IN SORROW (or through painful toil-NIV, or worrisomeness;
labor, or pain: sorrow, toil) SHALT THOU EAT OF IT ALL THE DAYS OF THY
LIFE-Gen 3:17.
Judgment three-THORNS ALSO AND THISTLES SHALL IT BRING FORTH TO THEE-Gen
3:18.
Judgment four-THOU SHALT EAT THE HERB (or the plants) OF THE FIELD-Gen
3:18.
I would see the "water/bathing" scene as a type of Baptism. Eventually the
sacrament will serve as remedy to the Fall. This scene may be intended to
prefigure this. Perhaps someone with access to a medieval sacramentary will
provide the words used in Baptism at the time your ms. was created.
These are all guesses...

p.s. Exquisite ms. and very sharp images. Thanks for the link.
