"Cementarius" is generally used for 'mason', usually those in charge. I
don't see why "quarrymen" shouldn't be just that. Remember, the quarry (at
least for most of the building stone) would be quite close by. Also, you
have to remember that much of the roughing out of the stone would have been
done at the quarry, with the final carving being done on site before it was
hoisted aloft. Probably the distinction between the "roughmasons" and the
"freemasons". So there could easily be three classes of 'stone cutters'.
As well as "layers".
