medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Agostino Patrizzi's Caeremoniale says that the emperor, before the second prayer, moves "ad medium ecclesiae."

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all,
In the Ordines Romani (ed. Andrieu) there is one passage in the liturgy for
the blessing of the emperor, where the bishop of Porto is said to offer a
second prayer "in medio rotae" (the first one was outside, in front of the
"porta argentea"):
"orationem secundam det episcopus portuensis intra aecclesiam beati petri in
medio rotae"
Does anyone have any idea what exactly this "rota" in the Church of Saint
Peter's is?
