There are a number of such lists that have been registered over the years for use in MARC catalog records, listed at
http://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/relasour.html#rela655b
This set is for genre/form (i.e., type of content) terms (for the MARC 655 field). Many of the thesauri listed have wider scope, but they must include terms relating to content types to be listed here. I notice that some of them are for international organizations, such as
ilot
ILO thesaurus: labour, employment and training terminology (Geneva: International Labour Office)
itrt
International Thesaurus of Refugee Terminology (New York & Geneva: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)
This list is maintained by the Library of Congress Network Development and MARC Standards Office.

Dear All,
We at the Food and Agricultural Organization are working towards developing a
comprehensive list to describe resource types (dc:type). The current DCMIType
list does not meet all our requirements. Before we start with the process of
expanding our list to accommodate all sorts of resource types, we would like
to know if anyone on this list has already done this. Are any of your own
organizations using similar expanded lists, and if so, is it possible to
reuse them in our applications?
Thanks in advance,
Gauri
