Hello,
The bak files are a second set of backups which are created whenever you
save a project, in this case it is the previously saved XML files (so not
the current state of the project). This is just in case the save fails
(e.g. the disk is full, or there is some bug in the save function).
The top-level project XML file, abc.xml, contains (amongst other things)
the information about where the other XML files (and also your spectra)
are located. When the abc.xml.bac file (and abc.xml.bak) file is created
it uses the original paths for the other *.xml files, it does not stick
the .bac suffix on those file names. So in abc.xml.bac the NMR data will
still be pointed to as being in abc/ccp/Nmr.xml, not abc/ccp/Nmr.xml.bac.
I guess the idea was to copy all the *.xml.bac files back over the *.xml
files. But I can see that this could be confusing, so perhaps that should
change.
