Hi,
Joachim did not specify the year 1260, but clues in his writing can
easily be interpreted as indicating that date. There are several
overlapping number systems in Joachim's thought, but the basis of the
prediction is that there should be 42 generations before the onset of
the millennium. (The number 42 is taken from the space of 3 1/2 years
that recurs in Revelation, which equals 42 months). Mdieval people
caluculated a generation as 30 years: hence 42 x 30 = 1260.
