medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Erik Drigsdahl <[log in to unmask]>
> To put some dates on the first occurrence of St. Joseph in calendars has
been a concern of mine for many years. In most Books of Hours from the 15th
cent. has he been entered by the owner as an addition in an amateurish hand,
apparently much later than 1500.
isn't it curious that he has a place in iconography from (at the least) the
early 12th c., and yet doesn't have a feast day until c. 1500?
