medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Megan
I think we are talking about two different things. The bishop's ring 'of
office' is as you describe it. (There are one or two examples in either the
British Museum or the Victoria and Albert Museum). Bishops also, of course,
had seals, some of which were of the signet variety. But I do not know of
any signet rings that were also the bishop's ring 'of office'. I am always
ready to be corrected - and no doubt someone will!
Best,
Rosemary Hayes
