What experience is there out there of combining service provision from one
service point, and particularly, sharing staff?
We already have experience of successfully running co-located services,
with separate staffing provision, but are now considering the pros and cons
of sharing staff with other service providers and operating other services
from within the library. We also have successful partnership arrangements
with the Council's training arm to offer accredited training to the public
from a number of our libraries.
The specific example under consideration in Powys Libraries is that of
Tourist Information Centres. The TIC staff would be expected to supplement
existing library staff in offering library services, the library staff
would be expected to offer TIC services, and the arrangement will be
expected to result in extended opening hours for both services.
It is likely that further integration with other council services will be
considered, such as Housing.
I would be glad to hear of any experiences, good or bad, from which we can
learn.
Regards
Helen
