medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The chief subject heading used for this topic in North American library
catalogues is:
Reformation--Italy
A very thorough recent bibliography (book-length) is:
John Tedeschi, _The Italian Reformation of the sixteenth century and the
diffusion of Renaissance culture: a bibliography of the secondary
literature, ca. 1750-1997_ (Modena: F.C. Panini, 2000). This has an
historical introduction by Massimo Firpo, today's preeminent scholar on the
topic.
A couple of recent surveys (book-length):
Massimo Firpo, _ Riforma protestante ed eresie nell’Italia del
Cinquecento: un profilo storico_ (Roma: Laterza, 1993).
Salvatore Caponetto, _La Riforma protestante nell’Italia del
Cinquecento_ ( Torino: Claudiana, 1992).
A few collections of articles by leading scholars:
Delio Cantimori, _Eretici italiani del Cinquecento e altri scritti_, a
cura di Adriano Prosperi (Torino: Einaudi, 1992).
Massimo Firpo, _Dal sacco di Roma all’inquisizione : studi su Juan de
Valdes e la Riforma italiana_ (Alessandria: Edizioni dell’Orso, 1998).
John Tedeschi, _The prosecution of heresy : collected studies on the
Inquisition in early modern Italy_ (Binghamton, NY: Medieval &
Renaissance Texts & Studies, 1991).
A few books in English:
John Martin, _Venice's Hidden Enemies: Italian Heretics in a Renaissance
City_ (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1993). There's an
online edition available to University of California faculty, staff, and
students at:
http://ark.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/ft609nb3dp/
Jose C. Nieto, _Juan de Valdes and the origins of the Spanish and
Italian reformation_ (Geneve: Droz, 1970).
Mark Taplin, _The Italian reformers and the Zurich Church, c.1540-1620_
(Aldershot: Ashgate, 2003).
You could also look for material on specific reformers, e.g. Lelio
Sozini (Laelius Socinus), Fausto Sozzini (Faustus Socinus), Pietro
Martire Vermigli, Bernardino Ochino, Aonio Paleario. There's plenty out
there. Most of it, of course, is in Italian. But by no means all.
Best,
John Dillon
PS: This website offers many English-language accounts of varying
(usually brief length), usually quite old and thus uninfluenced by the
insights and discoveries of several generations of recent scholarship:

It's a great example of the limitations of the free Web. I would avoid it.
