Most people working in library and information services need to have a comfortable grasp of the concepts and language of financial management. Whatever your area of
expertise it will be beneficial to you to have an understanding of the financial aspects
of your service.
This one-day workshop will clarify financial jargon, explain the fundamentals of
finance and introduce you to the financial management skills hierarchy.

To raise participants' awareness of the key principles of financial management
providing a sound foundation for the further development of financial skills.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL:
· understand the role finance plays in service organisations and the roles and
responsibilities of key financial personnel and processes
· gained awareness of key financial rules and regulations common to all
organisations when making payments to suppliers
· understand the distinctions between capital and revenue finance transactions
· be aware of important basic checks and balances in making payments and
reconciling those with budget printouts
· be aware of standard requirements in most organisations concerning the
awarding of contracts and calling for tenders
