Tonya:
I identified one wolf individual (I was able to record several cranial
measurements per guidelines from von den Dreisch 1976) from a protohistoric
Oneida village. The site is ON19 and is called Vallaincourt. The site was
acquired by the Oneida Nation in 2003. The Vallaincourt Site is located
approximately 5.2 miles northwest of the village of Munnsville, Town of
Smithfield, Madison County, New York State. The site is a Late Woodland
Oneida Iroquois village occupied c. 1475-1525. European artifacts are
associated with the site placing the context of this village within the
early Historic or Protohistoric period of Native American/European contact.
Excavations were carried out by the Chenango Chapter of avocational
archaeologists between 1993 and 1998.
I am not sure where the collection is curated. However, you should contact:
Anthony Wonderley
Oneida Nation Historian

He will know where the collection is presently curated and will be able to
discuss the possibility of using these specimens for analysis.

>>I am a mammalogist interested in wolf taxonomy and ecology. Our
