Dear Zooarch List,
Here is a new announcement for a $500 prize
competition for junior researchers who are presenting
papers at the upcoming ICAZ meeting in Mexico City:
The Junior Researcher Open Zooarchaeology Prize is an
award for the best open-access, open-licensed, digital
contribution to zooarchaeology from papers presented
at the ICAZ 2006 meeting in Mexico City. This
competition is open to all ICAZ meeting participants
who are graduate students or have received their PhD
within the past 10 years. The best contribution will
be determined by a panel of judges, based on its
scholarly merits and its potential for reuse in
research or teaching. To compete, projects must be
submitted to the BoneCommons forum. Full details and
instructions on how to enter can be found at the
BoneCommons website:

The Jr Researcher Open Zooarchaeology Prize is
sponsored by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
and the Alexandria Archive Institute, who work
together to develop and promote open educational
resources. The Prize is part of a recent initiative to
build awareness of open access resources and increase
community involvement in open scholarly communication.
This is a great way to build your CV and gain some
exposure. There is a vibrant Open Access community
that follows these types of events closely and will
write about them on blogs and discuss them at
conferences- Your paper could make you famous (well,
for a few minutes, at least...)!
I would be happy to answer any questions people might
have regarding this competition.
Thanks,
Sarah
