Hello all Zooarch readers,
Does anyone know of positive identifications of bones of guinea-fowl (Numida meleagris) from archaeological sites? Kevin MacDonald (JArchSci 1992) refers to sites in Africa and Zeuner mentions a specimen from Roman Saarburg, but have there been any others?
History shows that there must have been a few birds around in Greece, Rome and Egypt, and then again from the 16th century onwards in Europe, America and Asia, but have any bones been found?
I would be interested to know if there are any records.
