The environmental externalities of transport: mitigation and valuation
Research Associate (24 months)
£24,161 - £31,525 per annum
This post within the Transport Studies Group offers an excellent opportunity
to work on a balanced portfolio of research activities, involving experience
of practical research, the development of modelling skills and the chance to
contribute to the development of research and methods in the area of the
environmental externalities of transport. Annoyance from aircraft noise will
be modelled using an existing international data set also containing stated
preference survey data which will be used to explore the values placed on a
range of quality of life attributes. This research is led by Professor
Bristow in collaboration with Professor Wardman at ITS, University of Leeds.
Research exploring policy options with respect to carbon emissions from
transport in cities will be carried out as part of the Tyndall Centre for
Climate Change Research initiative on vulnerability and emissions in cities.
There will be opportunities to contribute to the development of research in
the area of transport externalities and to become involved in the activities
of the EPSRC Noise Futures Network based at Loughborough University.
Applicants will hold a PhD in transport, environmental economics or a
related discipline or equivalent research experience with some experience of
quantitative modelling. Experience in the modelling and design of stated
preference experiments and in the evaluation of environmental externalities
of transport would be an advantage.
