Dear Colleague
Netskills will be running the following workshops at Aston University in January and February:
1. Blogs, Wikis & Social Networking, 30th January
-----------------------------------------------------
As the world wide web moves into another exciting phase, sometimes called Web 2.0, it has never been easier to publish and access information online. Blogs and wikis offer simple, DIY, interactive publishing, while new social software tools enable collaboration online, whether sharing cutting edge research, CVs or holiday snaps. But is this just the latest craze or does it have the potential to revolutionise online information?
2. Project Management for the Education Sector, 31st January
-----------------------------------------------------
This workshop introduces a project management methodology specifically tailored to the needs of the education sector. It is an interactive day and will introduce delegates to a structured approach to project management. The workshop is flexible, enabling the content to be matched to the needs of delegates, whether experienced or beginners in project management, and to investigate various examples.
3. Information Skills: Is Google Enough? 1st February
-----------------------------------------------------
This workshop will give you a greater understanding of how Google works and equip you to search it, and other sites, more effectively. The workshop also provides you with the opportunity to explore what else is out there, learn about new developments in searching and think about how to evaluate web sites for quality.
4. Writing for the Web, 7th February
-----------------------------------------------------
What is so different about writing for the web?
The ability to write and re-purpose content for the web is an important skill. Visitors can abandon your site at the click of a button if they are not enticed by what you have written. This workshop will explore a range of proven practical techniques that you will be able to take away and apply directly to your own online content.
5. Web Pages from Scratch, 8th February
-----------------------------------------------------
Publishing web pages is now easier than ever, however some degree of technical knowledge and skill is vital in order to produce high-quality, standards-compliant online content. This practical workshop explains how web publishing works and teaches the fundamental skills you will need to create web pages using the current XHTML standard - along with an introduction to web page style and design.
