Dear Chris,
Thanks so much for the reply! Yes my approach to the project is to integrate
architectural methods in spatial design with information design's method of
clarifying information within the different levels of the library. The
intended outcome is to solve the library's wayfinding problem with both
architectural and information design approaches.
Anyway, from your reply, I do realise where my confusion and problem is. You
mentioned that a interdisciplinary approach "... only works if you get
people that understand these different methods and theories to work together
in a spirit of wishing to understand each other and collaborate to develop
this new approach". One of the solution that I am proposing to the library
is to build a new and explicit staircase in the library. Comments I get from
one architect was that this is an architectural approach and NOT a signage
solution, while adviced me to stick to my own discipline. Now i see the
issue here is the different levels of understanding and collaboration.
Thanks. I've got a better picture now!
-Chris Kueh
