Of course I was being mischievous but I think the point applies to both
graphic design and product design that they are no longer the
straightforward disciplines we used to understand and the fusions that
you referred to deserve a more subtle appreciation. Unfortunately the
secondary school agenda in the UK emphasises the lowest common
denominator and I know of a lot of kids that learned to hate graphic
design because of the sad way it is generally taught to teenagers. One
might well ask why we are expecting 14 year olds to learn professional
disciplines, generally instructed by teachers who have never worked or
studied in those disciplines (sigh)
And Dinosaurs live and thrive today, we just call them birds. Why be a
Stegasaurus when you can be an eagle?
