[Conference]

Worsening environment on the earth Since the 1990s, industrialized
nations, led by Japan, have been developing environmentally feasible
technologies and products, and their advancements are substantial.
But volume consumption of natural resources, emission of CO2, and
global warming factors defining the achievement of sustainability on
the earth scale, are far yet to be achieved.

Describing the sustainable society's image In order to tackle the
problems, it is urgently necessary to discuss sustainability, defined
in terms of a conventional industrial technology, industrial economy,
and social system. What is the future of our sustainable society,
which we foresee? First, we need to begin drawing images of our
perspective as descriptive as possible. One cannot create a roadmap
without any destinations.

Necessity of sustainable design It is time to recognize design fields
potential and power of expressions, conceptualisms to achieve
sustainable design. To excel such process, it is important to create
a bridge between design and the related fields, and we therefore
declare the proposal for the International Conference of Design for
Sustainability.
