DESIGNED OBJECTS (INDUSTRIAL DESIGN) FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION
The Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and
Designed Objects (AIADO) at the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago announces a full-time faculty position in Designed
Objects, tenure-track or tenured depending on previous
experience, starting August 2007 or 2008.
The School seeks experienced practitioners (5+ years minimum)
in Product Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design or
related fields of object design. This visionary designer and
educator will contribute to the further development of the
progressive Master of Design (MDes) in Designed Objects
program launched in Fall 2006. The program is particularly
interested in candidates with deep knowledge of design for
manufacturing/production technologies, sustainability, and the
global market, and seeks those with a desire to engage
innovative approaches to these topics.
Responsibilities include teaching in graduate and
undergraduate-level thematic studio courses utilizing
traditional and digital approaches to design and production,
graduate seminars, and seminars/labs in the candidate's field
of expertise.
Successful candidates must perform research related to
professional practice, service for the department and the
School, and other duties as designated by the department
Chair. Relevant teaching, academic, leadership and management
experience is advantageous.
Candidate should have national/international visibility within
design arenas such as consumer products, furniture, or
interactive objects/systems, with the ability to integrate
theoretical, material, practical and social issues into design
studio pedagogy.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a leading
professional school of art and design, is affiliated with the
museum of the Art Institute of Chicago at the center of one of
