Not sure I understand your question… perhaps you can clarify?
I am actually working on finishing a paper called "Interaction Design: A Study in Collaborative Creativity" (to be presented at the Academy of Management conference as part of their Critical Management Studies Session). Using a case study, I illustrate how individual inquiry, encouraged and nurtured by the group, advances the group's overall understanding of a problem and therefore bring it closer to a desirable solution.
This, to me, demonstrates that collaboration can take the form of individuals bringing prepared material back to a team meeting. Then again, I am still not sure if I understand what you are asking.
