Postgraduate Opportunity in Medieval Musicology

An opportunity for a post-graduate student to undertake research leading
to the degree of M.Litt./Ph.D. and to assist Dr Ann Buckley in an
IRCHSS-funded project on The Liturgical Veneration of Irish Saints in
Medieval Europe.
Requirements: an Honours primary degree of at least 2.1 level in one (or
more) of the following subjects: Music/Musicology, Latin, Liturgy,
Theology, Celtic Studies, Irish Church history. Some research experience
is desirable (e.g., an MA), but students graduating this year are welcome
to apply.
Funding includes an annual stipend of approximately EUR 12,700 plus fees -
initially for two years, with the possibility of applying for additional
funding to continue to the Ph.D. degree.

Details
The successful candidate will register for the degree of M.Litt. under the
supervision of Dr Ann Buckley. S/he will also engage in 10 hours a week of
research assistance to Dr Buckley in an international research project on
The Liturgical Veneration of Irish Saints in Medieval Europe, funded by
the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The research involves transcription of chant from medieval manuscripts;
editing of texts in Latin; the study of individual liturgical manuscripts;
investigation of the cults of Irish saints. Materials from this project
will be the focus of the resulting dissertation. Depending on the quality
of the candidate and the award of funding, there is a possibility of
extending the research to Ph.D. level.
Requirements: an Honours primary degree of at least 2.1 level in one (or
more) of the following subjects: Music/Musicology, Liturgy, Latin, Celtic
Studies, Irish Church history. Applicants with interdisciplinary interests
are especially encouraged, and will be able facilitated in every way to
build up their competence in relevant areas. Some research experience is
desirable (e.g., an MA), but students graduating this year are welcome to
apply.
Funding (Year 1: EUR 16,800, Year 2: EUR 17,300) includes fees plus an
annual stipend of approximately EUR 12,700*. Although initially for two
years, there is the possibility of applying for additional funding to
continue to the Ph.D. degree.
