Dear Colleague,
I would like to draw your attention to the forthcoming AGM of the
British Geophysical Association to be held in the Geological Society
Lecture Theature, Burlington House on Friday 10th March in the lunch
break of the second day of the meeting on 'Scale Invariance and Scale
Dependence in Earth Structure and Dynamics' being organized by Professor
Ian Main of Edinburgh University.
There is a need for three new members of the Committee to take the place
of those who have come to the end of their term of office. I attach a
note of those who will be on the Committee from March 2006 onwards.
The committee meets twice a year (in May and November) and there is an
AGM at the 2-day thematic New Advances in Geophysics meeting, this year
being held on the 9th / 10th March in the Geological Society Lecture
Theatre in Burlington House.
The two major 'projects' at present are the production and distribution
of the UK Geophysics Education Review and the action to be taken on its
publication, and preparing for the Geological Society's Bicentennial
Conference. A major event of the year is the UK Geophysics Postgraduate
Research in Progress Meeting, this year to be held at the University of
Edinburgh.
Peter Maguire will complete his Presidency at the AGM in Burlington
House, Piccadilly on March 10th of this year.
Dr. Roger Scrutton of the University of Edinburgh is President
Designate.
Professor Mike Kendall (University of Bristol) Dr. Peter Morris (British
Antarctic Survey) Dr. Wynn Williams (University of Edinburgh) complete
their period of office at the AGM.
I would ask that you consider nominating one or more colleagues for the
vacant positions and send such nominations to Dr. Lucy Mathers of de
Montfort University ([log in to unmask])
If more than three persons are nominated, then an election will take
place.
The BGA ([log in to unmask]) very much looks forward to hearing from
you.
Peter Maguire
President BGA.
