NO italian production has not high quality in this years. All wish to work
for tv or spot. You need someone very rich and interested on you for the
distribution most that for the film production.
Perhaps there are lots of Festival of indipendent cinema ( like this near my
hometown : http://www.provincia.foggia.it/festival/default.htm ) i which you
can find somewthing interesting. But the boreau deciding which one will go
to Oscar's Night is formede by big distributors so cicle is complete...
Here an article of mine, in italian about working in cinema in south of
Italy:

It's somewhat comforting to know that the Italians did not have to pass
up a better film when they choose "La bestia del cuore". I had been
wondering about that, so thanks.

Yes, I have seen Privato, which is certainly a daring and intriguing
project (it is Costanzo's first feature, shot on location in Gaza, with
a cast of Israeli and Palestinian actors), but I would hesitate to say
that it is a "better film" than La bestia del cuore. AOH
