So we could look at other societies and predict the depictions of
physical violence by how much they repress torture?
I don't know Russian cinema, but by this token we could safely predict
little torture in their cinema because the state tortures. Likewise, Iraqi
cinema under Sadaam would be practically free of torture?
Am I reading you right?
Taste in violence seems so universal that I would be surprised to see
this negative correlation. Was there little or no torture in Roman art
during the cruelest periods of the empire? Just asking. I don't have those
facts in front of me.
