Okay, this should be of interest: Patrick Roberton's Film Facts
(Aurum Press, 2001). It contains two pages (67-68) on kissing in
films, with info on the first screen kiss (the 1896 The Kiss), the
first French kiss in movies (Splendor in the Grass, 1961 - earlier
than I had surmised in my first post), the first same-sex erotic
kiss, the film with the most kisses, the longest screen kiss, etc.,
including a paragraph on Indian films and further info on kissing in
Muslim films. According to Robertson, Iran is the one major film-
producing country where on-screen kissing is still banned (curious:
no kisses in Kiarostami's works?!).
